If we begin to think of miracles as everyday occurrences, we could notice them all around us, and maybe even within ourselves…. Seeing miracles every day does not take away from the grand and unexplainable but expands our ideas of what miracles can be: every blossom of a flower, every push and pull of the tide, every time we breathe in, and every time we breathe out. If we reignited our curiosities, we could see that miracles are the fabric of our very existence. — Mimi Zhu
Mimi Zhu is a queer Chinese–Australian author, writer, and artist based in Brooklyn, New York. They explore the intersections of love and fear through the healing power of the written word in essays in The New York Times, The Guardian and VICE among others, Instagram, and their debut book, Be Not Afraid of Love: Lessons on Fear, Intimacy and Connection, published in 2022 by Penguin Life.
Be Not Afraid of Love is a compassionate, candid story and reflection about trauma they experienced, drawing on the wisdom of philosophers and teachers like Audre Lorde, bell hooks, and Thích Nhất Hạnh to help illuminate their journey from fear and disenchantment to a joyous connection with the “wows” of intimacy and everyday life.
