Meet Matt fioretti

As an alpine climber of the world’s highest peaks, and as a survivor of the depths of a life-threatening diagnosis, Matt Fioretti has traveled many paths in life, some more arduous than others, yet as he recounts his story, the experience of awe is clearly evident and deeply inspiring to all who have heard or read about it.

Matt Fioretti

Matt’s passion for alpine climbing began early in life, with his first Himalayan trek completed at age 20. A decade later, he founded Four Winds Expeditions and has guided 45 seasons in the Himalaya, helping climbers both summit the peaks and face their fears along the way. Last year, he and a friend crossed the Himalaya’s snowy ridges by foot, completing 350 miles of the 1050 mile trek.

At the apex of his climbing career, Matt was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a rare bone marrow disorder that required a risky bone marrow transplant, multiple rounds of chemotherapy and blood transfusions. He called the experience, “the hardest climb of my life to date.”

With his health restored, Matt returned to the Himalaya to again climb and guide expeditions when not working on his 140 acres in the northeastern part of Washington State, where he lives off the grid. Matt is the author of the recently released book, Between the Summit and the Grave, available at bookbaby.com
