Kindness in action

There are certain practices we can do to put kindness into action. These include at least the following seven ways we can do this.

  • Volunteer. Whether it is at senior homes, homeless shelters, soup kitchen, youth center or something else: we can give love and kindness to other beings. Support those places, people and animals in need.

  • Give hope. It is very noble and powerful to give hope to other beings by encouraging them, supporting their dream, their freedom. Both physically and mentally. Whatever we can think of, whatever resembles hope, we can give it to others.

  • Give generosity. We can be generous towards our community, schools, families, neighbours and so on. Our generosity can help others in need. We don’t have to look very far. It depends on others what they need and allow, but we can always offer.

  • Give wisdom. We can offer scholarships, online classes, sessions of therapy or life-coaching or anything we have some wisdom about. We can do this very easy. In every city there is an area where help is needed. This is how we can give our wisdom, our skills.

  • Support environmental care. We can take action to clean up our environment, trying to do whatever we can. Our neighbourhood streets. Public areas. Beaches. We are part of this earth, this we world, we can share the responsibility. We can plant trees. Take care of neglected places. Likewise, we can educate people in an honest, real and factual way. This is how we can make a difference.

  • Share happiness. We can share our joy. We can talk about this in so many different ways, but we know how to do this. We will find a way to do it.

  • Notice people. When people notice us, or acknowledge us, let’s not forget to notice that person and acknowledge that person back. We have somehow lost that kind humanness towards each other. We can try to connect a little bit with heart to heart with people. That is going kind.

Go Kind!

The last thing we can do to bring kindness into action is to do something crazy. A random act of kindness. Like paying for the person behind you in the grocery store, at the restaurant or the coffeeshop. Why not? Do something crazy. An act of kindness.

In any case, let’s Go Kind!

These pages on How to Be Wise? and How to Go Kind? are based on the teachings given by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche during the Be Wise, Go Kind: Uncertainty as an Opportunity Online Retreat 2020.
